About Emma
After graduating from the University of Glasgow, I worked with local schools as part of the GOALS project—an initiative aimed at increasing the number of pupils from participating schools who apply to, and are accepted into, higher education courses at colleges and universities. During this time, I supported high school students and those attending institutions in Glasgow, helping them develop skills for university or further education. I continued this work at Thames Valley University in London until 2005, when I completed my PGCE in Primary Education at the University of Kingston.
Following my time in London primary schools, I moved to Singapore, where I worked in an international school for ten years. During this period, I collaborated with NGOs and charities across Asia, focusing on education and delivering curriculum workshops in Cambodia and Indonesia. In the summer of 2015, I completed training at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York, specialising in the teaching of reading—an experience that deepened my passion for literacy.
I began postgraduate study at the University of Bath shortly afterwards, earning my MA in Education in 2022. I continue to collaborate with the University on sustainability education and research. As of 2025, I am also a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).
I joined Theorise as a full-time academic skills tutor in 2022 and have since been supporting students in study skills and proofreading. I have a passion for lifelong learning and research and offer support in academic writing, reading, and presentations.
